Minority Male Initiative
What is the goal of the MALE Network?
The primary goal of the MALE (Men of Action, Leadership & Excellence) Network is to ensure Black and Hispanic males have a successful transition to Texas State and are academically successful. The MALE Network strives to empower, support, and assist you in creating a strong foundation of success that you can build upon in the years to come. Students who participate in initiatives such as this tend to achieve higher grades, be more academically and socially integrated into campus, and graduate at higher rates.
What are the benefits?
As a MALE Network participant, you will have access to a number of exclusive resources. These resources include but are not limited to:
- A dedicated Academic Coach
- A dedicated Peer Mentor
- Opportunities to attend workshops and trainings to develop your academic and personal skills
- Fun and engaging social activities
- A professional and social network committed to YOUR success
What is an Academic Coach and Peer Mentor?
Your Academic Coach is a Texas State graduate student that you will meet with individually at least once a month. In these meetings, you will receive guidance in setting and making progress towards your short and long-term goals. Your Peer Mentor is a Texas State upperclassman that is academically successful and is involved on campus. S/he will provide you with out-of-classroom support to help you academically and socially integrate to Texas State.
